minus 273.15

Today I learnt all about absolute zero. The point of absolute zero is when all particles/atoms freeze to the point of total stillness, or freeze to the point of not having enough energy to move. That point is -273.15.

delicious.

Poor bagpuss...

BBC News website

Bagpuss creator Oliver Postgate has died aged 83, his family has confirmed.
Postgate, who lived in Kent, created some of the best-loved children's TV series including Ivor the Engine, the Clangers and Noggin the Nog.
His work, screened on the BBC and ITV from the 1950s to the present day, was often in collaboration with the artist and puppeteer Peter Firmin.
In a poll earlier this year, Bagpuss, a saggy pink cloth cat, was voted the best TV animal of all-time.
Postgate's partner, Naomi Linnell, confirmed he died at a nursing home near his home in Broadstairs in Kent on Monday.
Oliver said it himself, he was always a little boy
Sandra Kerr, colleague of Oliver Postgate
Friend and colleague, Sandra Kerr, has been paying tribute to "a creative and eccentric talent".
Ms Kerr, the voice of the mice in Bagpuss, said they had so much fun working together, their giggles can be heard on the Bagpuss soundtrack.

creamy

A special boy and I ate out tonight at a restaurant called The North Star. Im so full, and it came out of nowhere too. I think my food multiplied in my belly. And meringue. What a revelation! I dont think i had ever had it before. So when we ordered an eton mess to share, and not only did it taste like my favourite strawberry tart from Maison Berteux, but it also had this wonderful...thing, that tasted heaven sent, all crisp and icing sugar dusted.

Magnificent.

Breeders

I think Kurt Cobain once said that Kim Deal's voice should be distilled and archived. I agree. The Breeders played at Rough Trade east, part of the one year birthday celebrations for the store.
The Deal sisters have this amazing ability to make everything feel alright.

They had sisterly squabbles, burst out laughing in between songs, talked about their mom. All the while retaining the air of a kick-ass pair of women who just don't care what you think. Wonderful.

Dominoes

I have been a busy bee, hoarding material, stacking patterns, ideas, writing alot and general gathering the things I need for winter hibernation.

The pattern paper, pens and cloth are busy making a mess of my desk, along side all the books and camera film that are far too distracting right now. I enjoy those moments so much, the winter glow of being in a room, light pointed towards you, lost in the moment of creating something, no matter how simple. The concentration of the mind.

I've been good though, so far in my lonely self-taught sewing adventures, I have managed to draw out an idea, and using measurements, cut out some kind of pattern (whether this actually makes the skirt...!). Im going to do a little more work at it, and put up some pictures asap.

Angst

So, in my first post I said that I have started this blog as some kind of (my own)ass kicker as well as a way to ramble on about things that interest me and meeting like minded people! I decided a little while ago that I wanted to set some time aside to carry out the little projects i have stored up in my head and on scraps of paper.

One of those projects is to get sewing, starting off with making a skirt. An easy task perhaps, but there are so many things Im not trained in. For example, pattern making.

If anyone is reading this blog(!), do you know any good online resources for pattern making and structure?

I'm going to be so happy if I can get this to work!

Ohhh!

Oh look at this beauty! I've seen this APC coat in the flesh and it's everything I've wanted in a sailor coat. Why oh why is it so expensive?

Bunny eyes

Hi, I've decided to start a blog. Part inspiration, part ass-kicker. I find inspiration in beautiful old buildings, wonderful images, creativity, clothes with a story to tell and people i love. I'm a writer and daydreamer.
Welcome.
